A little girl and her pile of dirt

These little monkeys had more fun playing with a pile than you could imagine. We went to Indiana over Memorial Day weekend and spent a few days with Drew's parents. We don't have a lot of yard at our place and the kids went nuts over the open space. Their grandpa has been landscaping around their house and piles dirt from the holes he digs. Well, Elena spent a whole day just digging at this pile. Lucas couldn't quite climb up, but he had fun in the grass and the desolate corn field behind their yard.
It is fun to watch the kids discover and play. Elena is very interested in worms and snakes (ugh) so she kept hoping she would find something in the dirt. Thank goodness she didn't. I don't even know what she'll do when she sees the snake in the street in front of our house that met its match with a car tire.
We didn't get to make it down to Indianapolis to see friends this trip, but we'll be back. I don't think I could keep Elena from her precious dirt pile.

Future M.D.s

My kids love playing with Drew's doctor "toys." They even have a real stethescope that is theirs to play with. Lucas recently discovered that you can listen with the ear pieces instead of just chew on them. He was pretty impressed.

Elena thinks that she is a doctor. She does a pretty impressive imitation of the pediatrician's examination. Not only do they love pretending to be doctors, but Elena actually loves going to the doctor. She begs to go. We have to sing songs about the doctor. We even dressed her up as a doctor for match day and Halloween.
Yesterday we took Lucas in for a well-child check up. He did great. He let the doctor poke and prod him. Then it came time to give him shots. Elena loves this part. She gets her face right up to his leg to get a good look. This time she rubbed his arm to calm him down and even wiped a tear from his cheek while telling him it would be OK. She patted his band-aids and protectively cautioned the nurse that her brother now had "owies" and we had to be careful.
It was so cute to watch her take such good care of her "brudder." I think they'll both make excellent doctors someday.

I love you, Mom!

Happy Mother's Day, Mom! I just thought I would let the whole world, or at least these few readers, how much I love my Mom!! She's the best. I'm so blessed to have an amazing friend and mom all in one beautiful package. She is kind and generous to those around her. She is an example of endless patience. I appreciate all that she does for our family. She is a wonderful grandma, too!
I hope all of the other Moms out there had a great day as well! You're all amazing!

Lick the bowl

Who doesn't love to lick the bowl? I can't be the only one. Well, I know that I'm not since Elena obviously inherited her mother's sweet tooth. I don't just have one sweet tooth, I have a mouthful. Elena loves to help me bake. I'm currently making a chocolate cheesecake for a party tonight. She had to help. She HAD to like the bowl, beater, spatula, countertop, her elbow, etc. I love it! We're making cookies later today. She gets to help unwrap Hershey kisses. Between the two of us we'll ahve to see how many are actually left to put into the cookies.

Getting Old!

This is all in good humor: I was feeling a little sorry for myself after the weekend; let me know if any of you feel the same way or if I am just getting old! So my new neighbors were having a little Saturday night soiree and it lasted until about 3:300-4:00 in the morning. Due to the closeness of our houses and the fact that we still have single-pane windows, I could pretty much hear the details of their conversation all night long. Plus, as the hours went on so did the drunkeness. Anyway, not a big deal for the most part--but I just kept thinking to myself: "geez, I must be getting old." There was a day that I was the one up at all hours hanging out with friends causing the disturbance, but now three days later I'm still tired and trying to catch up on my rest from THEIR partying. Hmm...

Then I was thinking about how it's been ten years since I graduated from high school. That'll do you in right there.

Oh well, at least I can watch my favorite shows from growing up on Nick and Nite and TVLAnd.

HAve a good one!
